One of the most important things you can do as an employer to protect your business and ensure fairness in the workplace is to have a written employment contract. When an employment relationship does not work out having a well written employment contract can protect your business from court claims.

A well written employment contract can also help assist if any issues come up regarding the terms of employment including the following:

  1. Hours of employment;
  2. Compensation;
  3. Vacation time;
  4. Notice in the event of termination; and
  5. Duties expected of the employee

There are many other topics that an employment contract can cover depending on the nature of employment and the complexity of the employment arrangement. As well if your business has any important workplace policies they can be incorporated into the employment contract.
